The Golden Scarab: A Rhythm Myth

David Dutkowski Archives, Doors, Music

While going through the archives I was astounded by the amount of material that existed relating to Ray’s solo career, especially from 1973-1978. Since everyone has always focused, and rightfully so, on Ray’s time with the Doors, I thought it would be good for me to focus a bit on Ray’s time “outside the Doors”. I will be writing a series of articles, supported by exclusive archival material, focusing on just that. This first article, “The Golden Scarab: A Rhythm Myth” tells the story of Ray’s time right after the Doors broke up, the successful recording of his first album and the supporting tour. I hope you learn something new and pass it onto any Doors friends you have.

One other topic I would like to bring up is that we are putting a call out to anyone who may have recorded, filmed or took photos at any of Ray’s solo shows from 1973-1978. We are trying to track down all existing material before it is lost, destroyed or thrown away. We are hoping to do a series of archival releases. If you have any information on this, please contact us through the “Contact Us” page.

Thank you!
